I am looking for an O/U in 12 ga for my dad for when he comes out here to hunt in the fall. He is just planning on keeping it here to use. I just need something that is serviceable, nothing fancy, something that works good. I would like to stay under a $1,000 in price if I could.

| You can pick up a Mossberg 12 OU for 500-600 brand new. I shoot the 20 OU and am very happy with it. |

| So you have not had any issues with that shotgun? I've seen them and they look real nice. I had read mixed reviews on them, but I always take those with a grain of salt. It seems that the guys that complain the loudest shoot clays and shoot tons of rounds through them. |

| Both Turboshooter and I have Mossbergs. He has the 12 and I have the 20. Neither of us has experienced the misfire issue that many people post about. I read it enough that I think it probably happens. But if I shoot 50 times and on the 51st I get a click...just another reason added to the list of excuses ;o) I think the MB 12 OU is a little heavier than most but it handles fine for me when I've shot Turbos. Just seemed a lot less expensive for a part-time gun for your dad. I'd be happy to let you take either the 20 or 12 out for a shoot if you want. |

T1,
I just picked up a CZ Upland Ultralight 12 ga. for 450. I have only shot it at clays this summer but really like it so far. It weighs in at six pounds, is no frills, and mounts really well for me. Might be worth a look. You are also welcome to take it out some time if you would like. |

Thanks guys. I would like to shoot either one of these guns. I will talk to him about it. He's debating on letting me pick one up for him out here or just buy one back in Georgia and then bring it out that way. He doesn't bird hunt out there, so all of his bird hunting would be here. I will check out the CZ Ultralight too. John, was that CZ used or was that for a new gun?

| I got it off gunbroker and it saved me about 250 bucks off retail. I worked with Cliff's safes and reloading for delivery locally. The whole process was smooth, cheap, and fast. If you can try out the guns ahead I totally recommend it. |

T1, I have a friend who has shot the CZ Redhead O/U in 12 ga for several year w/o troubles and really likes it. I also shot his 20 ga Ringneck SxS at trap and I liked it. It was only one round so can't say much on durability, but the feel was nice and it shot well. IDf |

Thanks guys. I have heard good things about the CZ. I sometimes wonder if the quality of some of the Turkish guns are unfairly judged. I wonder if the same mentality is applied to Turkish guns as was applied to Japanese products at one time. Most people thought guns, guitars, and even cars made in Japan were junk. I am by no means an expert on guns, but the ones that I have handled have felt great. I have had both Remingtons and Winchester guns fail on me. You can have problems with all of them. |

| I would also recommend considering a CZ. I recently got a Redhead 20 ga. and have about 200 rounds through it and so far so good. It may not win any beauty contests but last I checked the birds dont care. |

| If you want a SXS get a Spanish made (like a Ugartechea) or a nice old Fox Sterlingworth. I have a friend that got one for 400.00. Stripped the stock, refinished it, spent 160 to reblue the barrels. Now he has like 650.00 in a gun that looks brand new, and is better than most new guns. |

| That is the direction that I tried to steer him, but the old man says that he does not like to shoot a s x s. He said that he cannot hit with them very well. He's an excellent shot, so I can't understand why he wouldn't be able to. He also says that he can't cast a fly rod, but he can put a spinner bait into a coffee mug at 60 ft with a bait casting rod/reel. Go figure. |

| My dad said that he picked him up a Red Label today. Was used, but well taken care of. It sounds like he got a pretty good deal. I need to get him to send it out here so I can keep it fed and oiled for him. |
