I took my two sons out this morning for the youth hunt. We roosted the birds last night and were all ready for them this AM. I had a ground blind set up with one boy on each side. The older boy had a dozen toms on his side, but the younger boy won the toss for first shot. I'm proud that he held off despite all the big boys showing off right next to him. I was able to call one over, but my younger son looked at his safety and that was all the tom needed at 15 yards to convince him the neighborhood was going to become unhealthy.
The toms took off after the hens, and we followed both. They gave us an opportunity when they fed along the edge of a small ridge. We crossed the ridge, ran along it for a ways, then crossed back to set up an ambush. Two toms were in the lead when they reached us, and the boys made short work of tagging out.
I've got two weeks to go before its my turn.
Rob.

Congrats dad and boys. You guys proved your abilities now let's see if dad can get one that nice. Does anyone know how the snow level is looking in the hills around LaGrande. I'm thinking about hunting Oregon first this year and then caming back to Idaho do to the rash of bad weather this year. Thanks in advance. Larry
