On the last day of the hunt this season I used a pair of boot chains and was impressed. Both Jim and I coincidently had the same model of boot chains and were both trying them for the first time. Jim was also impressed.
The hiking conditions were varied; from 12-inch crusty snow, on steep chukar slopes all the way downhill to bare wet slopes.
The boot chains performed well in all conditions. I especially noticed the traction they provided on the snow-covered rocks. They are also small and lightweight so they could easily be carried until needed. They slip on and off easily and quickly.
Although, they were not perfect, I did slip a few times but wasn’t paying enough attention to know if I slipped because of loose rocks or on the slippery frozen ground. The other issue I saw happened a few weekends before when Glenda lost one of her boot chains. I think adding a strap over the top of the foot would completely prevent this from happening.
With snow/ice conditions in the future I will be wearing my boot chains.

Karl, these look great. Thank you for the recommendation. I will definatley give them a try.
For x-mas one year, I got the Yaktrax rubber traction cleats that can easily fit over your shoe. I really liked the ease of use and the traction, but by the time I climbed the mountain (chukar hunting in the Owhyees) the sharp rocks had demolished the rubber holding the cleats. There was nothing left of them. They would be good for parking lots or ski areas... but not hunting in rough and rocky areas.

| I recently hunted hard in these boot chains. Towards the end of the hunt I did loose one of them. The issue is they slide when you are side-hilling in one direction for a while. I mentioned a strap over the top would elimanate the loss of the chains but it wouldn't prevent the chains from the rotating issue on side-hilling. I have a couple ideas for eliminating this issue...maybe SnoShoz will pay me for them! |

| I would if I could find them. Good for certain situations. Not the best for just general wear. If you are heading into areas you know have crusting snow on the rocks or ice I think they helped a lot. |
